WISAR Was Born

When Dr. Ted “Rescue 1” Esguerra instructed his team to prepare because he was creating a free training course, the team was all for it. It was to be called the WILDERNESS SEARCH AND RESCUE. A course that combines the lifesaving skills of a prehospital care provider and the mobility and austerity of a mountaineer. As a brainchild of Dr. Ted Esguerra, the course needs to be dynamic, informative, innovative, and most of all free. It has to be designed with great regard for mountaineers whom Dr. Esguerra envisioned to be great disaster responders and medical professionals who could learn a thing or two from the austere and unconventional ways. The course needs to cover the basics of mountaineering (for mountaineers and non mountaineers alike) and a full Emergency Medical Responder course with an addition of survival skills, Incident Command System, MCI, Wilderness First Aid, and most of all the course needs to be conducted where the team will function, in the wilderness.

With little to spend and much to prepare for, the organizers of the course sought the help of several groups to make everything possible. Mount Everest Expedition Team, Team Rescue 8, Spring of Life Adventure Campsite, XO Knives, Overboard Philippines, Coleman Philippines, Perpetual Help Systems Dalta, KKIP Foundation, Project Michelangelo just to name a few.

Unknowingly, it was because of one person, that sparked the flame to make the course a reality. When Mr. Victor Ayson, went missing in Mt. Maculot. it triggered the organizers to shift to high gear (with blessing from the family of Mr. AYSON the training was also named: PROJECT VICTOR AYSON.)

Thus, the WILDERNESS SEARCH AND RESCUE COURSE was born.
