TEOFREDO ‘TED’ T. ESGUERRA is the Emergency Preparedness & Disaster Response Unit (EPDRU) Crisis Lead of the Energy Development Corporation; the Expedition & Wilderness Emergency Medical Services Physician of the Philippine Mt. Everest Expedition Team and the Voyage of the Balangay; and the Expedition Doctor of the EDC Exploration in the Andes, South America last February to April 2012. He is also the Medical officer during the EDC-Philippine Mt. Everest Nepal Earthquake Operations 2015 Team during the earthquake incident in Nepal where he and his team facilitated Air MEDEVAC of trauma cases from the field to the hospitals.   He is the Philippine Representative to the International Search & Rescue (ISAR) Conferences since 2014 to present and awarded last 2015 as the Best International Speaker of the ISAR in the issues of Rescue and Disaster Management.  He is the founder and course designer of the volunteer national rescue team known as the Wilderness Search & Rescue (WISAR) Team.  He is presently the subject matter expert (SME) of the TV and Radio programs titled RED ALERT (Best Educational Program Award by the Catholic Mass Media Awards, 2014) which is hosted by Atom Araullo and Prof. Mahar Lagmay; dealing on the issues of Disaster Preparedness, Emergency Response, Survival, Safety & Security topics, and Rescue and is shown around the world through the ABS CBN’s The Filipino Channel.

He is also a senior instructor on Disaster Management of the Center for Disaster & Emergency Management (CDEM) of the University of Makati; the Disaster Response Director of the Project Michelangelo; and recently joined the Fellows of the Disaster Resilience Leadership Academy (DRLA) through the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC – Bangkok).

He once worked as the Officer-in-Charge of one of the elite rescue teams of the Philippines: The Specialized Medical Assistance Response Team (SMART) of the Philippine Coast Guard.  He is trained on Urban and Wilderness Rescue, Aviation Medicine, Expedition Medicine for Tropical and Alpine Mountain Operations, Tactical Medicine, and Disaster Management.

He is a member of the Aerospace Medical Association (AsMA-USA), International Disaster Response Network (IDRN), International Society of Mountain Medicine (ISMM-USA), National Association for Search & Rescue (NASAR-USA), National Association of Emergency Medical Services Physician (NAEMSP-USA), National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT-USA), Wilderness Medical Society (WMS-USA), and the World Association of Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM).

He is a top notcher in the Japan International Trauma Life Support, former Medical Assessor of the Australasian Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (AREMT); a certified Instructor of the American Heart Association (AHA) for the Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS);  certified Instructor of the American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) for Wilderness 1st Response Upgrade Courses; the Wilderness Doctor of the The North Face (TNF) international marathon events; the Medical Control for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) composite teams for the Guinness World Record marathon for the Pasig River; Head of the composite EMS teams of the Quezon City International Marathon (QCIM); Medical Control of the 1st Asian 100 km Mountain Marathon in Benguet (2012); and over-all Medical Control of the CamSur International Ironman 2011.

He is a senior instructor on Technical Rescue, Advanced Life Support, Wilderness Rescue, Mountain Medicine, Mass Casualty Incident Management, and Tactical Medicine for several schools, military units, volunteer groups, local government rescue teams and communities around Southeast Asia.

He received numerous national and international awards and commendations for his outstanding feats in saving lives, in promoting humanitarian assistance, in protecting the environment and in preserving the culture and the arts.  One of awards he got is the GAWAD DANGAL NG LIPI, Bulacan’s most prestigious award given to any outstanding Bulakenyo (mother side) who excels in the fields of agriculture, science, entrepreneurship, public service, sports, health and education.

He is an athlete being a 1st Dan Black Belt holder (Shorin Ryu), a marathoner of the Hillary-Norgay Mt. Everest Marathon last 2008 (Top 13 in the International Male Category), Class B Lawn Tennis player, and Mountain Biker.
